2022 Events

Maovember is a month-long campaign of quirky events and good causes held each November.

The 2022 partner is The Library Project, which has furnished thousands of reading rooms in schools in rural China, including with funds raised by Maovember (see here and here).

Most events have limited seating and require an RSVP by donating to Library Project via our dedicated QR code. For details and sign up, add ‘beijingboyce’ on WeChat or email nihao (at) maovember.com.

See our 2022 events list below, with upcoming events at the top and completed ones at bottom. This is very much a work in progress.

WE Corn Toss Tourney

Join the corniest event in Tianjin! The annual WE Brewery Corn Toss Tournament captures the spirit of Maovember by combining fun and fundraising. This year’s event features 16 teams playing round robin, with each getting at least four games before the playoffs start.

Add a lucky draw and a contest for the biggest bar tab, and this event, organized by WE’s Steve Wang, is shaping up to once again rank among the very best Maovember parties. Check out last year’s event here.

CHEERS Wine Olympics

Last year, CHEERS, hosted the return of the Mystery Wine Party, which featured 60-plus bottles retailing for over rmb200 and in some cases over rmb500. Guests donated rmb125 to Maovember, picked a bottle and unwrapped it to discover what grape, winery and country they got. This year, look for CHEERS to get more active with its Maovember event and create the CHEERS Olympics. More details soon. Check out the 2021 event here.

MVB Party!

BIIH session! The annual bash at Irish Volunteer, organized by Beijing International Ice Hockey (BIIH), is one of the highlights of Maovember. Events have included cornhole tournaments, flip cup contests, open mic session, auctions and lots more.

This year’s rock ’em sock ’em lineup is no exception. Expect a flip cup contest. And live music. And raffle prizes. And a groovy t-shirt that merges mustaches and hockey. The party starts at 6 PM on November 25. Check out the poster for details. And check out last year’s party here.

Ritan Park Mao-a-thon

Be a ‘Walk Star’! Go the extra mile for a good cause and join the Ritan Park Mao-a-thon on November 26.

The idea is simple. Participants will gather at Ritan Park to walk 5 laps, 10 laps, 20 laps or—the ultimate—50 laps. And they will find friends, co-workers and acquaintances to sponsor each 1.5 km lap, thus raising money for Maovember. Full details here.

This event is organized by the Metro Beijing branch of Entrepreneurs Organization (EO). Learn how to participate as a walker or a sponsor here.

This year’s Dog Pub Crawl kicked off the tenth annual Maovember campaign. “Paws for a cause” visited four venues, including Peach by Hulu, Paddy O’Shea’s, Jing-A and Pi Bar, with the canines–most of them in Halloween costumes–fueled by snacks from Penny’s while the humans in tow enjoyed a drink at each stop. The day also included lucky draws with prizes from Peach, Paddy’s and Jing-A as well as “virtual dog crawl” for those pups who could not make it, including Naughty, Darla and Olive. You can see the 2021 details here.

DillBEERt Pong

Buf2 Pong, named for a whisky based drink, burst onto the Maovember scene last year with a 16-team tournament at Great Leap Brewing that saw the winners awarded their weight in the booze in question. Funds were raised from team fees, a lucky draw and some mustache shaving.

This year, the event is called DillBEERt Pong, is set for November 5 at Great Leap, and will feature teams fighting for beer pong glory. 元300 per team of two players, including drinks during games.
